Artist Statement
I paint to free color from its rules, to let it wander boldly into light and shadow, creating moments that feel both unexpected and mesmerizing. My work is a celebration of vibrancy and contrast—a reflection of joy, curiosity, and the belief that art has the power to shift how we see not only spaces but ourselves.
I find endless inspiration in the little rebellions of nature—the way a flower unapologetically blooms from shadow into light, or how a seemingly ordinary object comes alive under the right glow. My paintings are less about depicting the world as it is and more about capturing the energy and emotion simmering beneath the surface.
Every piece is an exploration of life’s delightful tensions: wild yet composed, luminous yet grounded, elegant yet unrestrained. My hope is that these works invite you to linger, to feel something unnameable yet true, and perhaps even to rediscover the bold, exuberant side of yourself waiting to be unleashed.
Artist Bio
Laure is a fine art oil painter, born in Los Angeles, who received her BA in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego. There, she studied with inspirational figures such as Manny Farber, Allan Kaprow, Eleanore Antin, Faith Ringgold, Patricia Patterson, Italo Scanga, and David Antin, among others. She received her MFA in Film Production from USC, and after working on films in Hollywood, spent five vibrant art-filled years in Paris and Glasgow, eventually moving back to Los Angeles and receiving her PhD in film theory from UCLA. Her research focus was on film and the other arts, and in particular, how theories of color in art can be useful in the analysis of color in movies. While completing her dissertation, she taught film, photography and art to middle schoolers for several years in La Jolla before moving to “South O” in San Diego’s north county, where she now devotes herself full time to painting in oils. Laure aims to create paintings that connect on an expressive, emotional level, and are as unique and dazzling as the people who collect them. Bold. Bright. Beautiful.
